If you happen to be a fan of survival horror games, you are sure to enjoy the following titles that offer the same thrill that The Sinking City provides.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
Developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, The Dark Pictures Anthology is a survival horror video game that’s highly interactive and immersive.
The plot is presented as an unfinished story, and the Curator asks the player to complete it. The development of the story and the fate of the characters depend on the choices that you make throughout the game.
The story centers around five individuals looking for a WWII plane wreck and going on an underwater diving expedition to find it. However, they are kidnapped by pirates and find out that their survival is at stake as they have to make life or death decisions quickly.
A Plague Tale: Innocence
For those who love a good horror stealth game that’s heavily story-driven, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a great choice. The game, developed by Asonn Studio and published by Focus Home Interactive, was released in May 2019, and a new episode, to be launched in 2022, has already been confirmed.
Played from a third-person perspective, the game is set in 1348, in the rural region of Aquitaine in France. A young girl named Amica De Rune is the main protagonist of the story, and for most of the game, she is on the run with her ill brother, Hugo, and several acquaintances.
Amica tries to find a cure for her brother’s illness and, along the way, discovers the truth behind Hugo’s condition and how it connects to the plague that seems to follow them everywhere.
Call of Cthulhu
Like The Sinking City, which was inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Call of Cthulhu is a Lovecraftian game too. Developed by Cyanide and published by Focus Home Interactive, this role-playing survival horror video game is one that shares psychological horror themes similar to that of Sinking City.
Set in 1924 in the fictional Darkwater Island, the game follows the story of Edward Pierce, who is a war veteran and private investigator. Edward regularly takes sleeping pills and consumes alcohol regularly to cope with his increasingly bizarre nightmares.
He then takes up the case of the Hawkins family in Darkwater Island, who died mysteriously in a fire.
As the story develops, Pierce discovers the truth behind the family’s tragedy and how it relates to his own sanity. The ending of the game depends on the choices made by the player.
Don’t Knock Twice
A first-person, survival horror game, Don’t Knock Twice follows the story of a mother who attempts to save her estranged daughter from an evil, demonic witch. To do so, she needs to uncover the truth behind the story of the witch.
The game is set in a grand manor house that the player is free to explore to search for her daughter, all the while being haunted by the witch who can appear from anywhere, anytime.
