Perhaps the most thrilling announcement that attendees at BlizzCon 2019 heard was Blizzard’s Diablo 4. The excitement was not just because it was confirmation of a highly lauded and beloved series going forward, but also because Diablo was returning in a form that fans love the most.
If you remember Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction, then there’s a thin line differentiating the two. Diablo 4 is equally dark and foreboding, directly crossing over the brightly-colored environments and dopamine-dispensing loot showers of Diablo 3.
Here’s more about this RPG that you should know before laying your hands on it:
Looking at the gameplay trailer of Diablo 4, you can witness the sequence being built around the Druid class. The Druid was last seen in Diablo 2 and was completely absent from Diablo 3.
Although it wasn’t the initial plan to include this class in the game, a piece of artwork displayed as a huge, fierce, skull-clad figure posing with two intimidating wolves caused the team to change their minds.
A whole new open-world setting, along with mounts, will be coming to Diablo 4. Furthermore, Blizzard has extensive customization plans for the mounts in the game.
In all, Diablo 4 will have a total of 5 classes, including the Druid class. Two of them are making a comeback in this installment. The Druid has both animal companions as non-player characters and the ability to shift shape.
The Barbarian is a staple class in the series and will return to Diablo 4. This class will be available to wield both single and double-handed weapons in one shot and will provide four weapon slots.
Another returning favorite is The Sorceress, which will have AOE combat ability to control the battlefield and change into an energy ball to incinerate foes.
Diablo 4 comes after Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls. This is the point when the gates of Heaven have been closed after the Angel of Death, Malthael, teared down much of Sanctuary. Owing to Heaven’s ignorance of the events happening in Sanctuary, canonical mother of humanity, Lilith, is set free from her prison.
Talking about the setting of Diablo 4, the world is all open and features five distinct regions, and both a day/night cycle as well as ever-changing weather. Missions of the game are non-linear, and the game’s director says that you are free to take them on just the way you would prefer.
Dungeons to explore
Like previous entries, Diablo 4 will surely have the looting element. You are about to spend a lot of time exploring dungeons. And guess what? All of these dungeons will be randomly generated, just like it was in Diablo 3. The game’s director confirms that you will find ‘hundreds of dungeons’ in Diablo 4, and exploring them will unlock hundreds of legendary items for arming yourself.
