The Dragon Ball franchise has been around for years and has never failed to impress fans. This time too, players will get a new story-driven experience that they can immerse themselves in with the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
Initially titled Dragon Ball Project Z, and then changed to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the game will include backstories that haven’t been told in the manga, further expanding the Dragon Ball universe. Bandai Namco US shared the announcement on Twitter and creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama hopes that these new additions will significantly contribute to the “fresh new take on the franchise as you re-live the moment where Goku discovers his Saiyan bloodline and birth name, Kakarot.”
In the video which was released from publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment, we see director Kazumi Kimoto and producer Ryosuke Hara talking about more details from the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. In the video, the duo spoke about their love of the franchise and how they wish to provide players with a sense of the power and abilities of their favorite fighter Goku. In addition, they also spoke about the gameplay, giving us several insights into the game.
A role-playing action game, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is set to be released in early 2020. It will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
A game that will give you “nostalgia goosebumps.”
Although there is not much detail that has been released regarding the game, we know for sure that it is a game that will give players “nostalgia goosebumps”. Dragon Ball has always been a huge part of this generation’s childhood, and players will love going down memory lane with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
For instance, when you play through the “iconic battle of Goku and Piccolo vs Radditz”, the opening song of the franchise “Cha La Head Cha La” plays in the background, which brings back a wave of nostalgia.
While learning of new backstories that haven’t been published anywhere seems exciting, it is also a risky move on the creator’s side. Sure, players will have access to more interesting story details, but there is also a possibility that this will mess with what has already been established in the Dragon Ball universe. For example, in Kakarot, at the start of the series’ Saiyan arc, we have already seen that Androids populate the world, even though Androids were introduced only in the Cell Saga.
From what we can tell as of now, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot boasts of incredible visuals and excellent incorporation of the lore and multi-layered characters in the Dragon Ball universe. It is safe to say that fans will not be disappointed with the quality of this adaptation of their favorite anime franchise.
All things considered, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot appears to be a strong contender in the gaming world, and thanks to its legacy across the globe, unsurprisingly, one of the most anticipated games to be released next year.
