Developed by id Software and to be published by Bethesda Softworks, Doom Eternal is an upcoming first-person shooter video game. Belonging to the Doom series, it is a sequel to 2016’s Doom and also the fifth main title in the series. Set to be released later this year on November 22, the game will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia.
It was at E3 2018 that Bethesda and id Software announced they would release a sequel to their excellent 2016 Doom reboot. Then a few months later, at QuakeCon, there was a full reveal regarding details of the game. For fans of the 2016 Doom, 2019 Doom Eternal has much to offer and will keep you hooked.
Not only does Doom Eternal have new gameplay, but it also has a new multiplayer mode called Battle mode. Here, we take a look at the game in more detail.
Plot and setting
Doom Eternal takes place after the events of the 2016 reboot. However, the exact time frame is unknown. Earth has been taken over by demonic forces, and it is no longer the earth we know today. Instead, it has been transformed into a nightmarish and horrific world run by demonic monsters. Players take on the role of the Doom Slayer, just like in 2016 Doom, and fight off the evil forces of hell. The Doom Slayer returns once more to save humanity, but in the process, he has to suffer the wrath of Heaven.
As mentioned before, players take on the role of the Doom Slayer, an ancient warrior who
fights the demonic forces of Hell. Doom Eternal is a first-person perspective video game. Just like 2016 Doom, the game also focuses heavily on “push-forward” combat, encouraging players to engage enemies aggressively so that they can acquire health and ammo.
Various firearms including the Combat Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Heavy Cannon, Ballista and more are available for players. Melee weapons can also be used. Doom Eternal will also have new movement mechanics like dash moves and wall-climbing.
The game also features a new system known as “Destructible Demons” where the bodies of the Slayer’s enemies deteriorate progressively and ultimately destroyed as they suffer damage in combat. If the Doom Slayer dies in combat and he has spare lives, he will respawn where he died rather than at the nearest checkpoint.
An asymmetric multiplayer mode called “Invasion” is also introduced, which allows players to join other players’ single-player campaigns. In other words, you can fight other players as demons.
An exciting new element of the game is the multiplayer mode known as Battle mode, which is a 1v2 competitive mode. Here, one Doom Slayer takes on two player-controlled demons. All the demons seem to have unique abilities and movement options, while the Doom Slayer has a wide range of weapons and arsenals he can make use of.
With these exciting elements, no doubt once released, Doom Eternal will be a massive hit across the globe.
