Popular Darksiders series will soon welcome a new spin-off entry named Darksiders Genesis, which is being developed by Airship Syndicate, the studio which is known for celebrated games like Battle Chasers: Nightwear.

The upcoming role-playing game has not set a release date, but we know that it will be released later this year. Darksiders Genesis will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia.

What makes Darksiders Genesis such an exciting release is that it is a spin-off prequel game in the series, and a new character called Strife, who is the Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse is introduced. Strife is the protagonist in the game and eventually teams up with War, his brother later in the game.

Plot and setting

Since it is a spin-off from the original Darksiders series, the game will share much of its setting and backstory with the series itself. In the game, we see that that ever since the dawn of creation, the Balance across all existence has been maintained by The Council. Carrying out the orders of The Council are the Horsemen, of which the main protagonist, Strife is a part of.

Gameplay

Although Strife is the main protagonist of Darksiders Genesis, players have the option to switch to War anytime they want. The main difference between the two brothers in their fighting technique is that while Strife uses his pistols, War uses his sword called Chaos Eater.

Apart from this single-player mode, there is also a two-player mode, where each player takes on the role of one of the two brothers in a co-op mode. Once you have killed a certain number of enemies, you can use “burst abilities,” which allows you to kill your enemies much quicker and easier. Your enemies will spawn before you, and once you kill them, you earn souls.

Darksiders Genesis shares several similar gameplay elements with previous games. For example, in the game, players have access to gameplay mechanics like bombs, just like in the other games.

Darksiders Genesis is a game to keep on your radar, especially if you are a fan of the series.
